John :: Massachusetts At-Home Newborn Photography

Hey friends! We’ve made it to that “mid-summer” point and we are in the midst of a mega heat wave. I am grateful to have an excuse to stay inside in the air conditioning and get a bunch of work done this week. As of tomorrow, we’ll be away for a little over a week in Massachusetts. Lil will be going to baseball camp with my brother, we’re going to spend time with family, swim in my parents pool and eat a lot of ice cream!

I had the joy of photographing Ros and Matt’s little guy back in March. He arrived two weeks “past due”, which is basically an eternity in a pregnant woman’s life, and mom and dad were so happy to finally have him in their arms.

When I arrived at their home in Massachusetts, I was surprised and delighted to see one of my favorite wedding photos I’ve taken in a large canvas on their mantle. Sometimes it surprises me to see photos I’ve taken in people’s homes, but it really just tells me that these photos mean so much to them and that what we photographers do, matters.

By the way, happy five year anniversary, you two!

John was a sweet, sleepy and snuggly little baby, and I set up in their dining room for the soft light that was coming in that side of their house. We shot a series of cozy baby portraits, and then went up to Ros and Matt’s room to take some relaxed family photos of them holding, kissing and loving on their little guy. We used a mix of the wraps and blankets that I bring with me in my little traveling studio along with a gorgeous handmade blanket by Ros’ best friend Liz, and some of their favorite swaddles to make his photos a bit more personalized.

What do you want for Mother's Day?

Every year my husband asks me this and every year I stammer and wrack my brain and end up mumbling "Uhhhh I don't know, breakfast something something quiet day something something I don't need anything."

I don't really need anything. We're healthy and happy. I have everything I need. But what's the point of Mother's Day but to honor the women who are so special to us, in whatever role they fill in our lives. And to be celebrated. Am I the only who for some reason feels guilty for being celebrated? How silly is that? I grew two humans! That wasn't easy! It's still not easy. haha

With Mother's Day a couple weeks away, I can think of no better gift to give than time together taking beautiful photos of mamas and their babies. Whether your babies are tiny or in high school or grown up, or you want generational pictures and include your own mom, or your babies are covered in fur and keep your feet warm at night. There are so many ways to be a mama, and they should all be celebrated and honored!

Bird Park Family Photography

I am in love with the session. Adorable toddler? Check. Newborn sleepyhead? Check. Gorgeous mama and goofy daddy making their kiddo giggle while snuggling sleepy newborn? Check and check. 

Jess and Mike and their two sweet little ladies met me at Bird Park in Walpole for a family session and my first thought was "Little Isabella is wearing jellies and I might die of cuteness." 

Jellies are the bomb, especially when they're tiny and pink and adorning the feet of a cutie pie. 

We made our way around the park, giggling, taking breaks for the baby to nurse and keeping Isabella entertained. I pulled out all my best mama-of-a-little-one tricks and by the end of the session, I think you could say Isabella and I were very good buddies. She fistbumped me, so that's something.

Ceci :: Gloucester Massachusetts Newborn Photography

I am counting down the days until spring. I really can't complain, because it snows nonstop for a day and a half, and then it's 50 degrees and rains and all the snow goes away, but with no school and my husband having to drive on a sheet of ice to get home at 5am, I'm not a big fan of this winter thing right now. I need my kiddo to go to school so she can learn and become more brilliant and so I can get my house cleaned and drink my coffee while it's still hot. Too much to ask? Come on, nature, throw me a bone! 

In November I had the honor of photographing Kristen and DJ's maternity photos in our hometown of Duxbury, Massachusetts, and shortly after, they welcomed sweet Cecily into the world. I will admit that I loved this session not just for photographing such a beautiful little girl, but to also getting to spend time with an old friend. Life is weird and fun and I am grateful for Facebook and technology for keeping me connected to friends from my youth who I may otherwise have never seen again after graduating high school. I love reconnecting, and getting to see my friend as a wife and now mother is such a gift.
